Maybe You Were Wondering…

Maybe You Were Wondering…

… Where we’ve gone?

Nowhere.  We’re right here.  Since the launch at the beginning of August we’ve taken on nearly seventy members interested in being part of the alliance.

We expect to have a lot more content and activity by September, but at the moment we’re still setting everything up.  Getting our office ready to deal with what we hope will be a hive of activity.

Some new members have expressed a concern for anonymity and discretion.  Let me assure you that we have no intention whatsoever of publishing the details of anybody who takes part.  Whether you use your real name or a pseudnonym in discussion, debate and blog interaction is entirely up to you – we’ll never publish any other information.

At this point we are keen to find members who’d like to help with regular blog posting.  We intend to publish articles a couple of times a week from September onwards – depending on issues arising on the national arena which require discussion.  We would be happy to publish member’s material (in keeping with our Conservative Libertarian theme) at any time and as often as possible.

So, if you’d like to write something please do go ahead and email it to us at office@conservativelibertarian.co.uk  or, if you have your own blog and feel that you’ve written something of interest to members, send us the link and we’ll direct people towards your blog to read the article in its home location on the web.

Thanks to everybody for your patience while we sort out the basics of the new alliance.  Please bear with us until September when everything should get a lot more interesting – and exciting.

Oh – and we’ll have a presence of some kind at the Conservative Party Conference too.  Hope to see some of you there!

UK Conservative Libertarian Alliance Launches!

Who Are We?

In recently years British Conservatism has begun to fracture into different areas of political and philosophical thought. Out of that confusion a new breed of Conservative Libertarians have become a cohesive minority group which offers something different, some might say something fresh, to British politics. This is by no means unique in the world, or indeed unique in our country’s history – but it is an interesting development. The UK Conservative Libertarian Alliance are a loose-knit cross-party group whose aim is to bring together like minds, encourage debate and the exploration of Conservative Libertarianism and (where appropriate) to pursue Conservative Libertarian policies and solutions in practice. The UK Conservative Libertarian Alliance is not a political party. Our members might be Conservatives with a libertarian outlook, or Libertarians with a Conservative slant, or, indeed, from any other political party whose ideals are not directly opposed to our position.

One of the greatest delusions in the world is the hope that the evils in this world are to be cured by legislation. – Thomas B. Reed (1886)

What Is A Conservative Libertarian?

Conservative Libertarianism is a blend of political libertarianism and cultural conservatism. In short it is a belief in individual freedom and personal choice within a framework of cultural traditions, morals, standards and values. Conservative Libertarians believe in a small state, the rule of law, minimal coercion of the law-abiding individual, democracy, transparency, localism, civil liberties, free trade, equality, diversity and tolerance. We believe that what people choose to do, where their activities cause no harm and infringe on no rights, is their own business. We believe that the first and most important right is the right to free speech, because without that no other right can be defended. We are opposed to government doing things “for our own good” and choose to remind government that it is the servant of the people – only there by the consent of the governed.
